The Story

Lumi the little rabbit trips on a stone, scrapes his knee, and loses his favourite teddy somewhere in the tall grass. He looks and looks and cannot find it. "Today is not a good day at all." That night the room grows darker and the shadows of the trees sway long and wobbly across the wall, and Lumi pulls the blanket up to his nose.

Then the Moon Sister rises at the window and points to three dim little stars in the sky: his sadness, his anger, and his fear. Every dim little star, she says, is waiting for a hug. So Lumi steps into the night sky. He kneels beside a trembling grey-blue star and holds it until it glows gentle blue.

He hugs a sulking dark-red star from behind until it warms to orange. And he cups the smallest one — curled up, too frightened to move — against his cheek until it unfurls like a flower into brave purple. The three of them float up hand in hand and paint a galaxy. Closes with a short letter to the reader.
