Every night, while the forest sleeps, a small fox named Pippy lights the lantern on his boat and rows out to catch moonlight — scooping it off the surface of the lake with a net, where it pools like coloured syrup. He has deliveries to make.
Ollie the owl has a hundred crayons and no colours, so Pippy shakes his net and the light bursts out in a whoosh of tiny butterflies that land on Ollie's blank canvas. A little bunny has broken her paper lantern and is afraid her ears won't find the way home, so Pippy gives away the only lamp on his boat.
Goldie the fish is scared to sleep at the dark bottom of the lake, so he sends down a moon pearl to whisper to the night that a sweet dream is waiting. And when Pippy's own boat finally goes dim, Mother Moon blows silver stardust across the water — and at the dock, every friend he helped is standing there holding up a light, turning the dark night into one big warm hug.
